ENR Southeast Announces 2022 Top 20 Young Professionals in Southeast

Dr. Kalyan Piratla was selected as one of the Top 20 young professionals from Engineering News-Record (ENR) southeast region and the only individual from the academia to be listed this year. ENR is among the most widely recognized construction industry publications. ENR annually recognizes 20 up-and-coming construction industry professionals who exhibit notable achievements in terms of career and industry leadership, community service, and creating landmark projects in each of its 10 regions. The southeast region comprises Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas.

Piratla is an associate professor in the Glenn Department of Civil Engineering and his research focuses on Underground Infrastructure Systems Engineering with focus on design, installation, and management aspects.  He is also interested in understanding the inter-dependencies of various urban infrastructure systems. His research work has been predominantly funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT). Dr. Piratla began his Clemson tenure in August 2012 as an assistant professor. He received the Liles Professorship in 2018. Piratla’s education background includes his Ph.D. from Arizona State University, and his Masters and Bachelors in civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, India.

Piratla’s other most noteworthy recognitions include the Arthur M. Wellington prize from ASCE in 2015 and Ralston Young Trenchless Achievement award from NASTT in 2020. He is also the Associate Editor of the ASCE Journal of Pipeline Systems Engineering and Practice journal.
