Susan is a fiber and mixed-media artist renowned for her ability to transform found objects, such as those found at estate sales, antique shops, flea markets and mother nature, into meticulously composed works of art. The daughter of German immigrants, Susan has built a life devoted to creativity, craftsmanship, and artistic exploration. Working from her studio in a restored church within the historic Cateechee mill village near Central, South Carolina, Susan employs both hand and machine stitching, alongside book arts and three-dimensional assemblage. Her obsession with repurposing found treasures reflects her fascination with forgotten narratives and the passage of time. Her work has been featured in national publications, juried exhibitions, and esteemed fine craft shows, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Smithsonian. She has appeared on art quilting television programs and South Carolina ETV’s Palmetto Scene. Her pieces are included in the permanent collections of the Textile Museum and the Department of the Interior Museum in Washington, D.C., as well as the McKissick Museum in South Carolina.

Bert Fox Presents “Return to Titanic with Dr. Robert Ballard”

September 3, 2025, 10:00 am – 11:30 am

Dr. Robert Ballard’s team of engineers, guiding remotely operated vehicles, will take you to the depths of the North Atlantic where you will see the Titanic’s wreckage 92 years after it sank. In 2004 National Geographic photo editor Bert Fox joined Dr. Robert Ballard on this voyage, onboard the NOAA research vessel Ronald H Brown. Mr. Fox’s presentation will begin in the Irish docks where the Titanic was built and lead you through its fateful voyage and conclude with an up-close look at what remains of the Titanic on the seafloor. 

Presentation in the Seminar Room at the Emeritus College located in the Regulatory Building at 511 Westinghouse Road. The public is welcomed to attend.

David Detrich came to Clemson University in 1992 where he headed the Sculpture Program in the Department of Art and acted as the Graduate Program Coordinator until his retirement in 2022. Leading up to his retirement, he and his wife founded Woodlawn Apiary, LLC in Walhalla, SC. He is a South Carolina Beekeepers Association Certified Beekeeper and is affiliated with the SC Specialty Crop Growers Association in Columbia, SC. Honey produced at Woodlawn Apiary, LLC has received recognition locally and statewide for its outstanding quality and taste.

In this session, participants will learn more about the general privacy issues related to AI apps as well as the roles that property and ownership play when using AI tools. Additionally, environmental impacts of wider use of AI tools will be addressed.
