Kelli McCourt, a Ph.D. student in Biosystems Engineering, has been awarded a Graduate Research Fellowship by the National Science Foundation. McCourt was one of seven students at Clemson University to win the NSF Fellowship this past year. These are among the most competitive awards made to U.S. graduate students. McCourt completed her undergraduate work at the University of Florida where her research primarily focused on precision agriculture and sensor development for public health. She was attracted to Clemson University because of its commitment to environmental sustainability. McCourt is working with Dr. Diana Vanegas, an assistant professor of Biosystems Engineering in EEES. McCourt’s research is geared toward developing low-cost sensors, user interfaces, and data analytics tools. After earning her doctorate McCourt plans to continue her research at a national laboratory or as a professor in academia.
