On Monday, March 30th the Equine Manure Management Program was conducted via ZOOM. Our program reached participants from South Carolina but also included participants from Alabama and Wyoming. We used the features of ZOOM, like group chat to enable the participants to ask questions at any time during the class. By offering the class online we were able to ensure a safe learning space for participants and safe space for the speaker. We used a host and co-host in order to make sure that any questions that came up were not overlooked while one person was presenting.
Participants have reached out and expressed their gratitude to us for our willingness to provide educational opportunities safely to them during this stressful time. We are currently in the process of planning more ZOOM programs in order to continue Extension’s outreach during this time. One thing we learned and would like to share with others is to have all participants mute their microphones when they join the meeting and to submit questions during the program via the chat box feature. This cut down tremendously on background noise and distractions while allowing for a higher quality presentation from the speaker.
