Why did you choose Finance as a major?

I was originally a Marketing major and I really loved it! Then I begin to get into my finance and accounting classes and I realized that I loved that even more. I saw the opportunities available from this potential degree and I knew it would be challenging and rewarding both at the same time. My father is a finance manager at a Ford Dealership and being able to communicate with him allowed me to realize that this is where I should be. Finance is unique and that is the kind of degree that I was seeking from Clemson. I wanted to major in something that was broad and that could give me the potential to do anything in the business world.

What career field/job would you like to pursue after graduating?

I have accepted a full time job post graduation to work at Bank of America’s Corporate Headquarters in Charlotte, NC. I am going to be a financial analyst in the two-year rotational FMAP Program. I’m not really sure exactly what I want to do with my career and this program allows me to gain some experience and work towards figuring that out. The FMAP Program would allow me to receive two entirely different roles throughout finance at the bank and would allow me to see what I like and what I don’t like. I have always been a huge fan of building my leadership skills and finding ways to make those around me better. I hope to gain a management position at some point in the future so that I’m able to apply the skills that I’ve been learning throughout my entire life.

What has been your favorite/most memorable moment at Clemson?

My most memorable moment at Clemson has to be the Notre Dame game of my sophomore year. It was pouring and that is what made it more exciting. The game came down to a last minute defensive stop that allowed us to secure the win. It is one of those games as a Clemson student that anyone here would cherish forever. The fact that I’ve been able to be a part of two championship runs has made my experience worthwhile.

Any recent accomplishments?

I am currently starting a program called Black in Business for incoming pre-business male students of color. This mentorship program will allow these students to feel comfortable and receive advice from upperclassman. Clemson isn’t the most diverse school out there so I’m just making sure that I can do my part in improving that for our university. This program is for my service project for the Thomas F. Chapman Scholar Leadership Program.

Do you have a great internship experience you’d like to share?

This past summer I interned at Bank of America Corporate in Charlotte and I absolutely loved it. I was on the Global Liquidity Business Management team and I was able to use my skills from the classroom in the corporate environment. The networking I was able to do was outstanding and they made me feel like I belonged. I was able to edit/review the BAC Resolution Plan and also work with Global Liquidity Management compliance. I learned even more that I could’ve imagined and I’m excited to get back and start my career.

What do you think prepared you the most?

The College of Business has prepared me more than I ever could’ve imagined. All the way from my business 1010 professor to my academic advisor to my faculty. Everyone here is so helpful and really wants you to succeed. I feel so personalized when I walk into this school because everyone is chasing their own dreams and goals. The faculty has taught me so much about the financial world that I will be entering into. My advisors have made sure that the path that I’m on is one that is for me. All of the networking, events, and workshops that our college had gave me opportunities that allowed me to post my resume and my skills.

Any words of advice to other students?

Take your time and enjoy the ride. You are going to get to Clemson and feel like you have to have everything figured out. I was the same way. The amazing thing about it is, you don’t. I changed my major first semester of my sophomore year and I know others who have changed multiple times. College is all about figuring out who you are and what you really want to do. No matter what that looks like for you, it’s different for everybody. Utilize our campus and their resources, it’ll take you a long way.
