Recently, Sethuraman Panchanathan, director of the National Science Foundation (NSF), came to Clemson to visit Clemson’s International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR).
Dr. Emily Tucker serves as faculty advisor for Clemson’s INFORMS student chapter at the 2022 INFORMS Annual meeting in Indianapolis this October. Student members include Chelsea Spence (President), Seyed Amin Seyed Haeri (Vice-President), Lucky Cho (Treasurer), Di Liu (Communication Director), and Akhil Kumar Reddy Gopireddy (Director of Academic Initiatives).

Yongjia Song has just been awarded a 3-year grant from the Office of Naval Research (ONR) to study topics related to contested logistics, with a total amount of about $350K. The concept is that (military) logistics planning should incorporate the possibility of being contested and challenged by an adversary.
Over this past summer during May and June, the Clemson Industrial Engineering Department, along with the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences, led a new study abroad opportunity to travel to France.
For the 2023 US News & World Report, Clemson’s Industrial Engineering program has ranked 16th among all universities nationwide and 11th among all public universities. This is a move up from 24 (overall) and 18 (public).
Dr. Tanju Karanfil (Environmental Engineering) and Dr. Kapil Chalil Madathil (Industrial Engineering) received an NSF grant to support water treatment operations. Empirical studies will determine the efficacy of mixed reality technology to support the training needs of water treatment technicians.
Recently, as many as 6 IE faculty were either principal investigators (PIs) or co-PIs on several seed grants awarded for the 2022-2023 cycle through Clemson University’s partnership with Prisma Health.
Karen Lindenmeyer passed away in early February. Karen Lindenmeyer, who was an IE faculty member for years, will have an endowment in her honor that provides funding for the Lindenmeyer Leadership and Public Service Award.
