The Department of Industrial Engineering is proud to announce the appointment of five new faculty members for the 2014-2015 academic year. These faculty members will complement IE’s already talented faculty team and bring additional expertise and teaching capacity to service the growing demands. The new faculty appointments are as follows:
Dr. Burak Eksioglu – Eksioglu, an associate professor, comes to the department from Mississippi State University. He completed his doctoral studies at the University of Florida in Industrial Systems and Engineering. His research interests are in the area of optimization and spans applications in transportation logistics, production management, supply chain management, graph theory, and inventory control. He uses methodological tools such as Lagrangean relaxation, network programming, primal-dual theory, column generation, meta-heuristics, and game theory in the context of the problem at hand. This fall he will teach IE 8090 – Model Systems Under Risk. |
Dr. Sandra Eksioglu – Eksioglu, an associate professor, comes to the department from Mississippi State University. She completed her doctoral studies at the University of Florida in Industrial and Systems Engineering. Her research interests are in operations research with applications in supply chain, logistics management and transportation systems analysis. She develops mathematical models and solution algorithms that help design and manage large scale and complex supply-chains. In particular, she is interested in the application of these tools to the bioenergy supply chain. This fall she will teach IE 4400/6400 – Decision Support Systems. |
Dr. Robert Riggs – Riggs, who comes to Clemson from the University of Michigan, will serve as a lecturer. His research interests include optimization and throughput modeling of disassembly and remanufacturing systems under uncertainty. He also has interests in applying lean principles and tools to healthcare applications. This fall he will teach IE 2010 – Systems Design I and IE 3860 – Production Planning and Control. |
Dr. Sara Lu Riggs – Riggs, who recently completed her doctoral studies at the Universityof Michigan, will serve as an assistant professor. Her research interests are in cognitive ergonomics on task sharing, attention management, and interruption management. She has ongoing research in the areas of: multimodal interface design (such as redesigning cockpit displays for NextGen operations and cognitive processing limitations (such as change blindness and inattentional blindness). This fall she will teach IE 4910/6910 – Investigating Human Error in Complex Systems. |
Dr. J. Cole Smith – Smith, an alumnus of Clemson, comes from the University of Florida and will chair the department as well as serve as a professor. He completed his doctoral studies at Virginia Tech in Industrial and Systems Engineering. His research areas include integer programming and combinational optimization, network flows and facility location, computational optimization methods, and large-scale optimization due to uncertainty or robustness considerations. Dr. Smith looks forward to chairing the department and to helping position it as one of the top industrial engineering programs in the country. This fall he will teach IE 2880 – Deterministic Operations Research. |
