Leadership position expected to boost industrial engineering profile

Scott Mason will soon begin serving a three-year term in a leadership position at a top professional organization, helping boost Clemson University’s visibility among industrial engineers.

Mason will be introduced in March as the new senior vice president of continuing education for the Institute of Industrial Engineers. His term begins April 1.

Mason is the Fluor Endowed Chair in Supply Chain Optimization and Logistics and a professor of industrial engineering at Clemson.

Cole Smith, the chair of the industrial engineering department, said that having Mason in a leadership position at the institute will help raise Clemson’s profile.

“Scott’s appointment is a testament to the impact he has made within this major professional society, and the trust that his peers place in him for leadership,” Smith said. “His new role with IIE brings his department and the university terrific visibility among professionals and other academic institutions.”
