William Hare Jr., Professor Emeritus of Mathematical Sciences – December 27, 2020

William (Bill) Ray Hare Jr., 84, Professor Emeritus of Mathematical Sciences, died December 27, 2020.

Hare joined the faculty of Clemson University in the fall of 1964. He was a beloved mathematics professor for over 39 years and stayed in touch with many of his students long after he retired.

Hare graduated from Henderson State Teacher’s College with a Bachelor of Science in math and chemistry in 1957 and went on to earn his master’s degree in mathematics in 1959 and his Ph.D. in mathematics in 1961from the University of Florida. He taught Duke University before joining the faculty of Clemson University.

After retirement, he continued as faculty adviser and treasurer for Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Kappa honor societies for many years.

Hare is survived by his wife, Eleanor; sons Bill (Denise) Hare and David Hare; daughters Ginny Hare and Cathy (Ed) Huddle; and six grandchildren,

A small memorial service was held for the family with a full memorial service to follow later this year.
