Clemson Concrete Canoe Team Wins Regionals and Participates in the National Competition

July 21, 2023

Clemson’s Concrete Canoe Team (3CT) participated in the annual Carolina’s Student Symposium hosted by the Citadel on April 13th-15th.  The event brings together eight universities in North and South Carolina competing in events such as Concrete Canoe, Steel Bridge, Quiz Bowl, and others.  Clemson’s canoe, “Midnight”, placed first in a competition that included canoe races, presentations, and a detailed report. Though the competition took place in the spring semester, the team began its work on the canoe in the fall with captains Zary Gouin and Paige Waters leading the team under the supervision of Dr. Prasad Rangaraju.  The team of more than 10 students worked diligently to develop the plans for the canoe and execute its construction by the April competition.  Having won the regional competition, 3CT was able to participate in the National Concrete Canoe Competition held in Platteville, WI on June 10th-12th.  Students from the team were able to meet and network with other championship teams from around the country.  3CT returned to Clemson and has already begun preparations for the 2024 Carolina’s Student Symposium to be hosted by the University of North Carolina – Charlotte on April 4th-6th.  Congratulations to 3CT and their successful season of competition and best of luck in 2023-2024!
