Fellowship Opportunity at PA Geological Survey

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Geological Survey (Middletown, PA, USA) are hosting a 1-year, post-MS or post-PhD fellowship on critical mineral potential in historical iron ores, slags, and their host rocks. We are looking for folks with expertise in geochemistry. Experience with operating an SEM/EDS, portable XRF, and/or LIBS is greatly valued. Creativity and innovative approaches to research and geoscience education are always appreciated.

Minimum requirements*

• Incoming college freshman or college sophomore
• Desired major in an engineering discipline (civil, chemical, mechanical, structural, electrical, or environmental engineering) or in environmental science
• Enrolled at an ABET accredited 4-year college or university
(applicable to engineering programs only)
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent on a 5.0 scale). For incoming freshmen, GPA is based on high school cumulative GPA. For college sophomores, GPA is based on the first year of college.
• US citizen or permanent resident
• Identifies as a member of an underrepresented group

Internship Opportunity-Greenville

Internship Announcement

Title: Environmental Education Intern                                                         Application Deadline:  March 22, 2024

Openings: 1                                                                                                                   

Schedule: 10-20 hours/week                                                                                                                    

Start date: April 2024                                                                                                                                  

End date: July 2024, extension possible

Wage: Paid, $15/hour

Description:

The Environmental Education Intern will join GCSWCD’s Education team.  In addition to work experience, this intern will have the opportunity to develop skills in design using Adobe applications, educational event planning, survey development/implementation. Opportunity to develop and plan a project to coordinate with departmental goals.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with educational events, including set-up, take-down, and classroom management
  • Assist with community outreach events (Farmer’s Markets, Pop-Up Seed Libraries, etc.)
  • Take photos at events

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Create content for social media
  • Assist in administrative tasks

Qualifications:

  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to work evenings and weekends
  • Basic understanding of MS Office applications
  • Self-starting, focused, and efficient
  • Comfortable working in all weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of conservation and earth sciences
  • Some experience in youth development, youth education, and/or adult education
  • Experience using social media for outreach and education
  • Ability to lift 20+ pounds
