Great Opportunities With the NASA DEVELOP National Program This Summer!

NASA DEVELOP is a 10-week paid research opportunities with the NASA DEVELOP National Program, open to current students and recent college graduates as well as transitioning/early career professionals. Please pass this information, along with the attached flyer, to those who may be interested. 

NASA DEVELOP projects focus on helping local, national, and international communities address their environmental concerns while utilizing NASA’s Earth observing fleet of satellites. NASA DEVELOP operates at eleven locations across the country at NASA Centers and other regional locations. This is a great opportunity for participants who are interested in practical applications of remote sensing and GIS, specifically in the field of Earth Science. Participants will work with NASA scientists, partner organizations, and science advisors to learn about the use of NASA Earth science data for use in water resources, disaster management, ecological conservation, and other applications to address environmental community concerns. 

Responsibilities will include: literature review, data processing and analysis, and producing deliverables, such as a technical report, presentation, and video. Previous GIS or remote sensing knowledge, while beneficial, is not required for acceptance. This is a multi-disciplinary opportunity for all those interested in Earth science and we encourage those in the social sciences, general science, engineering, computer science, etc. to apply. 

Applicants must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment. Days of the week are flexible, but applicants should be able to commit to 20 – 29 hours per week during the term. The position is paid on an hourly basis that is determined by education level.

Engineering for Bouncing Back Better (EB3) 2025: Research Experience for Undergrads

Oregon State University is hosting summer internships for undergraduate students interested in hands-on and interdisciplinary research on how the field of engineering can contribute to building resilient communities. The Engineering for Bouncing Back Better (EB3) program will award 10 fellowships of $7,000 per student + travel and subsistence support. During the 10-weekprogram, students will work with faculty mentors and graduate students on a specific project and develop research skills to increase graduate school opportunities.

Summer REU Program in Marine Science at the University of Delaware

Applications are now being accepted for the Summer REU Program in Marine Science at the University of Delaware, an NSF-Funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. 

The program will take place from June 2 to August 8, 2025, at the University of Delaware’s Hugh R. Sharp campus in the beach community of Lewes, located on the shores of the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean.  Interns will work with faculty in a research-intensive setting on a research topic in chemical, physical, or biological oceanography, marine biology, marine geology, biogeochemistry, or a related area. In addition to hands-on research experience, student support includes a $7,200 stipend, campus housing, and travel assistance. The deadline to apply is February 14, 2025

Participants will work with NASA scientists, partner organizations, and science advisors to learn about the use of NASA Earth science data for use in water resources, disaster management, ecological conservation, and other applications to address environmental community concerns.

Internship Opportunity: Palmetto Clean Fuels Internship within the State Energy Office

Palmetto Clean Fuels coalition, an initiative of the State Energy Office within the SC Office of Regulatory Staff, seeks to hire an intern for the Summer 2024 semester. Funding for this internship is through the Clean Cities University Workforce Development Program (CCUWDP), an initiative of Clean Cities, a government-industry partnership sponsored by the US Department of Energy’s Vehicle Technologies Program. This internship will give students from a broad spectrum of fields (communications, public relations, business, marketing, engineering or environmental sciences, and others) the opportunity to grow public awareness and expand the markets of advanced vehicle technologies, alternative fuels, and practices that reduce the consumption of petroleum. We have numerous clean transportation initiatives underway and several on the horizon, making the summer semester an ideal time for meaningful work.


The successful intern will assist with existing efforts and future programs and initiatives such as those outlined below:


• Focus on Palmetto Clean Fuels tasks, opportunities, outreach, and research
• Implementing the Plug in SC marketing campaign and initiative
• Expanding coalition recruitment efforts and assisting with outreach events and meetings
• Updating and developing success stories for newsletter and web content
• Assisting with data collection, fleet analyses, and assistance to fleets
• Providing research support for the electric vehicle and other alternative fuels

The successful intern must meet the minimum requirements:


• Eligibility: Only students who are currently enrolled in an educational institution and are an undergraduate or graduate student are eligible. Students who have recently graduated and have been out of school less than one year could also be considered eligible candidates, but the preference is to have a student currently enrolled in school.
• Timeframe: Students must be available to work 30 hours/week for the summer semester (June 3rd – August 16th).
• Have an interest in alternative fuel vehicles, clean energy, and stakeholder outreach.
• Have exceptional written and oral skills and be must capable in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Benefits
• Stipend: Undergraduate students receive $750 per week and graduate students will receive $950 per week.
• Travel: A total of $1,000 travel reimbursement for inbound and outbound expenses for participants who live more than fifty miles, one-way, from the assigned hosting site, and who are paying for housing onsite is available.
• Housing Allowance: A housing allowance of $400/week is provided to participants whose home of record is more than fifty miles, one-way, from their assigned hosting facility, move onsite for the duration of their appointment, and are paying for housing while onsite. Alternatively, for those whose appointment is 100% virtual, a $50 virtual allowance will be added.
Appointment Details
• Appointments will be for 10 consecutive weeks during the months of May-July. Factors such as class schedules, housing availability and facility schedules may be taken into consideration when determining appointment start and end dates.
• Interns will be assigned to research projects and/or other technical activities under the guidance of a DHS mentor.
• An appointment involves daily participation at the host facility with the HS-POWER participant in residence at the specified location. Virtual appointments may be available for some appointments.
• HS-POWER participants are required to have health insurance coverage during the appointment period and to provide proof of this coverage prior to the start of the appointment.
Nature of Appointment
Participants will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DHS, or the hosting facility. Instead, participants will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE Letter of Appointment and Terms of Appointment.
