EEES Internship and Job Postings

Intern/Co-Op in Nuclear Waste at Westinghouse

Westinghouse is interested in hiring an intern or co-op from Clemson interested in nuclear waste. This could begin as early as Spring 2022, but there are also spots for the summer or fall. This is for students interested in the sustainability side of environmental engineering. You can work from anywhere but may require some travel at irregular times. If interested, contact Hanneke Counts at Johanneke.counts@westinghouse.com.

Summer 2022 STEPS REU/REF

Recruitment for the Summer 2022 STEPS REU/REF is now underway. Please share announcement and flier broadly. The Science and Technologies for Phosphorus Sustainability (STEPS) Center will support 15 students for ten weeks (May 31, 2022 – August 5, 2022) through a multi-institutional Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. Students will work on independent research projects within the Center under the mentorship of STEPS Scholars and faculty. Considering the long-term nature of the “25-in-25” vision, at least five REU positions are reserved for applicants who indicate future career plans in farming or related agricultural professions, forming a Research Experience for Future Farmers (REF) track within the program. Each REU/REF student will be paired with another student in the program working on a complementary project anchored in a different research theme. The students will meet (in person and/or virtually) throughout the summer to help foster community building and convergence thinking. All participants will receive a $6,000 stipend in addition to on-campus housing and travel to the host institution. For more information and to apply, please visit the STEPS REU Website: https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://stepscenter.org/reu/__;!!IkmNjII!WuFn_3D3zUGcXSz6VfRSh97Nmjwh8pwQMeNzIo1yuP2AvHKrqQ9fkk0wL0H1DL6t$ .

City of Anderson Internship

The City of Anderson is contemplating utilizing an intern to help with their upcoming project to inventory their water distribution system for lead and copper service lines. They will have a consultant to lead the effort, but are thinking the tasks they would need assistance from their staff would be a good intern task such as looking at their records and working within their work order system to pull together needed data. Ideally the intern would work about 10-15 hours per week during the Spring semester. It could even turn into more hours next summer if the intern desires.

If interested, contact Dr. David Ladner (ladner@clemson.edu) and he’ll put you in touch with the folks at the City of Anderson.

NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates: Sustainability of Civil Infrastructure in Rural Environments

NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates: Sustainability of Civil Infrastructure in Rural Environments

Within the United States, rural areas provide unique resources such as the infrastructure for food and bioenergy production as well as the transportation infrastructure from inland urban centers to ports. Despite this, little attention is paid to the unique challenges and opportunities these areas face with respect to building and maintaining civil infrastructure. In this ten-week summer research program, students will work with faculty and graduate students in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to improve our understanding of how best to address the challenges facing rural environments.
