Access professional development with just one click as a Clemson faculty

Welcome to the new term!

Every faculty member fills a unique and vital role at Clemson University. Your teaching, research and service transforms lives, impacts the citizens of South Carolina and the nation and generates new knowledge. Your work matters and the Faculty ADVANCEment Office has been established to support you during your career at Clemson. As we change seasons and start another academic year, we want to encourage you to set aside time on your calendar for your own professional development. Participating in mentoring activities, setting up a semester plan, or attending a writing workshop can help attain your goals and advance your career.

Clemson University provides all faculty with access to two faculty development platforms: Academic Impressions and National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity. Below is a brief description of each platform and how you can access them.

Academic Impressions is focused on professional and leadership training for faculty, staff and administrators in higher ed. Users can access both asynchronous and live seminars. Clemson University has a site license for this professional development program and you can login using your Clemson credentials with no additional registration needed for most courses, webinars and trainings. Once you choose a topic you are interested in, you can then click on the ‘login/create account’ tab. As a Clemson faculty member, you can just use your institutional email and password and take advantage of the new workshop, “Cultivating an Inclusive Academic Environment: Leading in the Classroom”, to help faculty better support, embrace and mentor students from all cultures. These are seven online sessions (1 hour each) beginning on September 15th and concluding in early December before Finals week. If you are interested, register here. We had our new director, Lori Dickes, login to the platform and try one of the modules. She took the Academic Impressions ‘Setting and Maintaining Boundaries as Faculty to Develop Professional Well-being and Success’. Her feedback was positive!

In addition, Clemson faculty also have access to the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity. To activate your account, please visit the NCFFS portal.  One of the most popular components of this platform are two-week writing accountability groups in addition to the on-demand seminars and live events. The next ‘14-day writing challenge’ will be held October 9 – 22, 2023 and we strongly encourage you to sign up for it. To look at the ease of utilizing this platform, we asked Carlos Garcia, a faculty fellow in our Office, to sign up.
