The Department of Industrial Engineering is honored to welcome Dr. Jamiahus Walton as an assistant professor of industrial engineering this Fall 2019.
Dr. Walton obtained his Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction from Iowa State University this year. He earned his Master’s of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Iowa State University in 2015, with a thesis comparing team feedback in a team multiple errands test. Prior to that, Dr. Walton completed his bachelor’s degree at Millikin University in 2013, where he earned his BS in Physics with a minor in Mathematics.
Before joining Clemson, Dr. Walton was a research assistant at Iowa State University for the project titled, “Traffic Incident Management Enabled by Large-data Innovations.”

What type of research do you focus on/what are your application areas?
My research focuses on teams, teaming, and collaboration. My primary area of interest in an intelligent tutoring system for teams.
What was your prior employment?
I was a graduate assistant at Iowa State where I did a myriad of things, from helping with projects that focused on tutoring systems, to transportation, and a bit of autonomous vehicles. I also helped with a research undergraduate program in the summers.
What are your research interests?
My most recent study focuses on how displaying different metric levels (i.e., Individual vs. Team) influences team performance.
What brought you to this field?
My initial interest in this area started during a project I was a part of a couple of years ago. The project focused on developing a generalizable tutor that could train a team. The questions asked during that project sparked my curiosity. Since then, I have explored the complexities of team collaboration and the unique challenges that arise.
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I like to spend time with my wife and new baby girl, play chess, code/develop, and listen to audiobooks.
