IE Student Wins National Award

Emily Huffer with IISE’ past, current, and incoming presidents.

Emily Huffer received the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) James W. Barany Student Award for Excellence in May 2019.  She was formally recognized at the IISE Annual Conference and Expo in Orlando, Florida.  This highly-competitive award recognizes undergraduate students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship and campus leadership.  Emily was the single recipient of this national award based on her academic merit and extensive involvement within Clemson Industrial Engineering (IE).

Emily is currently pursuing an MS degree in industrial engineering at Clemson and will graduate in Fall 2019.  During her time as a Clemson IE undergraduate student, she conducted research related to systems improvement in healthcare systems and completed three internship rotations in this area.  She founded the IISE Clemson Chapter of the Society for Health Systems and has also developed and co-led a new Lunch-and-Learn seminar series that continues to thrive and grow in the department.  After graduation, she plans to pursue a career in which she can apply her IE skills to improve healthcare systems.
