4-H Livestock Clubs Find Their Spark in Lexington, Orangeburg, and Calhoun Counties

Nicole Correa assisted Lexington County and Orangeburg/Calhoun County 4-H Agents in creating 2 Livestock Clubs to reach youth in those counties.  Over the last year there has been 7 meetings between the two clubs, with 10 more to follow in the coming year.  Both clubs meet once a month and focus on a specific area of livestock during each visit.  The meetings are held at the county offices or at a working farm/ranch in the community so that the students can meet local farmers/ranchers.  So far the students have seen poultry, sheep, beef cattle, and a veterinary operation.  They were also taught about putting together a general livestock first aid kit.  Many of the children do not have livestock of their own, and this opens their eyes to the different aspects of owning and raising livestock including industry, showing, and the different 4-H livestock projects available.  There are over 20 students attending amongst the 3 counties!
