We are proud to introduce the new Clemson Online Student Advisory Board (COSAB)! The COSAB represents Clemson’s online students and is led by a six-member leadership team composed of both graduate and undergraduate students. Its main goals are to represent online students, build community, promote equal access to opportunities, improve online programs, and help students grow both academically and professionally.
The COSAB is led by President Janvi Patel, a senior majoring in Computer Information Systems with minors in Cybersecurity and AI. In addition to leading COSAB, Janvi serves as the treasurer of Clemson FIRST and the secretary of Clemson Forge. She kindly took the time to answer some questions for Clemson Online!
How will the COSAB facilitate success at Clemson?
“COSAB will support online student success by strengthening communication between students and the University. It helps identify challenges, improves access to resources, and creates ways for online students to stay engaged and connected with the Clemson community.”
Have you identified any goals that represent the COSAB?
“Yes. COSAB’s main goals include representing online students, building community, promoting equal access to opportunities, improving online programs, and helping students grow academically and professionally.”
What is the overall purpose of the advisory board?
“The main purpose of the advisory board is to advocate for online students and ensure their needs are recognized across the University. Its purpose is to create a supportive, inclusive environment where online students feel valued and are given the tools to succeed.”
Janvi and the COSAB have clear goals to accomplish in their first year and beyond. The COSAB currently has four committees made up of members to focus on four key areas:
Communications Committee
The Communications Committee focuses on strengthening communication and outreach through social media and other Clemson communications platforms to inform and engage members. Their goal is to raise awareness of the organization and boost participation in its events.
Events and Engagement Committee
This committee focuses on fostering connections with Clemson online students by organizing opportunities for engagement beyond the virtual classroom. Its goal is to strengthen the relationship between Clemson online students, COSAB, and Clemson University as a whole.
Advocacy and Policy Committee
The Advocacy and Policy Committee aims to gather information and amplify the voices of Clemson online students to better understand the needs, trends, and barriers that affect their experience. The committee uses these insights to develop informed recommendations for Clemson Online’s leadership team.
AI Committee
The AI Committee aims to support Clemson University by promoting the ethical, effective, and responsible use of AI tools. Using AI tools and resources can enhance the student learning experience and increase engagement.
Together, these committees contribute to the overall goals of the Clemson Online Student Advisory Board. We are excited to see what Janvi and COSAB have in store for the future!
