COFFEE Series

Clemson Online Furthering Faculty Education and E-learning

COFFEE tiger

The COFFEE series is Clemson Online’s signature faculty development program. Ranging from the basics of accessing Canvas to more advanced pedagogy and technical skills, the eight courses below can help you demonstrate the following measures of teaching effectiveness:

  • Incorporation of new knowledge and unique teaching techniques into courses, labs, etc.
  • Participation in professional development related to improving teaching skills or methods.
  • Teaching innovation and curriculum development (Faculty Success tab).

COFFEE courses include the original course intended for instructors who want to learn best practices and skills for developing quality online courses as well as options targeting staff, early-career instructors, and those integrating Canvas in face-to-face courses. Self-enroll courses include options for learning more about accessibility, video and visual technology, and responsible AI.

COFFEE courses are all self-paced and facilitated by experienced Digital Learning Strategists. For any questions about the series, email COFFEES@clemson.edu.

Quality Matters Reviews (QM)

Online Course Quality Assurance Program

QM logo

The QM course certification program is an internationally-recognized mark of quality for synchronous, asynchronous, and hybrid online courses. Clemson Online offers internal course reviews, external reviews (for official QM certification), an annual QM Cohort program, and several QM and QM-related workshops for instructors at Clemson.

Clemson Online’s QM offerings can help you demonstrate the following measures of teaching effectiveness:

  • Incorporation of new knowledge and unique teaching techniques into courses, labs, etc.
  • Participation in professional development related to improving teaching skills or methods.
  • Teaching innovation and curriculum development (Faculty Success tab).
  • Recognition for teaching excellence.
  • Service to the teaching profession (if you become a certified faculty peer reviewer for QM course reviews).
  • Development of new course or modality change to online (BYCC only).

Two workshops, Building Your Canvas Course (BYCC) and Improving Your Online Course (IYOC), are facilitated by Clemson Online staff regularly. A QM course review is a collaborative, comprehensive examination of an online or blended course by a team of trained, certified peer reviewers, all of whom have online teaching experience. Courses are reviewed using the QM Rubric, focusing on design – NOT content – with a particular emphasis on alignment among your course objectives, assessments, tools, etc.

For any questions regarding QM at Clemson, email our campus QM Coordinator, Hansen Wetsel.
