Canvas Jumpstart Series

This pre-semester hybrid workshop series is for you to bring your laptop, questions, and ideas for using Canvas in your courses! Each day’s session will include an hour of demonstration as well as dedicated time for questions about specific issues or topics.

Schedule and Topics:

Day 1 – Canvas Essentials

  • 9:30 AM – 9:55 AM – Welcome and introduction
  • 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Demonstration and questions
    • Importing course content
    • Creating and organizing assignments and the grade book
    • Creating quiz banks and quizzes
    • Creating rubrics

Day 2 – Canvas Organization

  • 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Demonstration and questions
    • Creating modules and pages
    • Organizing content best practices
    • Create a welcome page
    • Create a “Start Here” module

Day 3 – Canvas Tools

  • 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Demonstration and questions
    • Zoom
    • iClicker
    • Turnitin
    • LockDown Browser
    • Kaltura

Location: This hybrid event will be held in person in Cooper 416 (The Brown Room) and over Zoom. A Zoom link will be emailed out to all registered participants 24-48 hours before the event.

Recording: These workshops will be recorded, so if you cannot attend every day, you will receive a link to the recordings for all three days.

We have a robust Spring semester lineup of topics and live training formats to support your use of Canvas and other e-learning tools. Topics cover demonstrations of using Kaltura, presentations on inclusive practices for online education, and workshops to get your Canvas site ready to teach!

Did you know that you can use Kaltura outside of Canvas? In this session, learn about Kaltura Mediaspace and how it can facilitate collaboration and organization of your media. Facilitated by Gray Jackson, Learning Technology Specialist.

Workshop Wednesday: Take Your For-credit to a Non-credit

This workshop will provide an overview of creating a non-credit course by modifying your pre-existing for-credit content. We will discuss the course development process and fee structure, as well as our available support services, such as instructional design, graphic design, and video creation. This workshop is open to all instructors, whether you have taught online before or not. Facilitated by Lori Kinley, Ph.D., Associate Director of Clemson Online. A Zoom link will be emailed to registered participants 24-48 hours before the day of the event.

Quick Hits: How to Manage Gradebooks – Finalizing Grades

Now that the end of the semester is upon you, it’s time to determine and process final grades. Join us to see what steps you can take to ensure that scores are adding up correctly and that your final grades are accurate. Facilitated by Axel Ruiz, Learning Technology Specialist. A Zoom link will be emailed to registered participants 48 hours prior to the day of the event.
