ALB Technician Gus Elmore

Gus Elmore grew up in Crouse, N.C., a small town near Charlotte. His appreciation for the outdoors started during childhood growing up on a small family farm.

After high school he followed that appreciation to UNC-Chapel Hill where he studied Biology and Environmental Studies with a focus on Ecology. Through an internship working in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park he gained an appreciation for field work and how enjoyable it can be to make exploring the outdoors your job.

Gus started a small nursery selling tropical plants online and worked as a seasonal Plant Pest Aide for the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. At NCDA he learned about Asian Longhorned Beetle and its recent discovery in South Carolina. The timelines of both positions happened to line up and the rest is history!

Gus spends his free time caring for his sprawling houseplant collection and relaxing with his very lazy dog named Fatty. When not watering his 150+ plants, he enjoys hiking, going to the movies, fishing, and exploring the local food scene.
