What are worktags and how do I know which ones to use for financial and HR transactions?
The Foundation Data Model (FDM) replaces Clemson’s Chart of Accounts (CoA) and serves as the foundation for all transaction processing and reporting in Workday. The FDM is made up of worktags – keywords assigned to each transaction to identify and categorize it for budgeting, reporting and accounting. This creates a classification that allows information to be easily found, filtered, analyzed and summarized. Many worktags auto-populate in Workday, reducing errors and time in daily tasks.
Check with your finance point of contact he/she will be able to help you determine which worktags to use.

Can I delegate tasks to others?
A faculty or staff member may establish a delegate for up to 180 days, at which point, the delegation assignment must be renewed in Workday. Delegation allows individuals to authorize another employee to assist with tasks in one of two ways:
- Start on My Behalf – This delegation option allows an individual to have a delegate initiate a task on their behalf (e.g., creating an expense report). A delegate can either save the task for the user’s final review or submit the task for approval.
- Do My Tasks on My Behalf – This delegation option allows a delegate to approve tasks on an individual’s behalf (e.g., approving timecards). This option helps ensure important processes or workflows continue when you are temporarily out of the office or otherwise unavailable. If you choose to delegate this way, you will see a checkbox labeled “Retain access to delegated tasks within My Tasks.” Individuals are encouraged to keep this box checked, as unselecting it will remove their ability to do tasks on their own.
Faculty and staff should adhere to these best practices when utilizing Workday’s delegation features.
- Use delegation to ensure work continues. Limiting delegations to only necessary tasks helps prevent confusion and avoids overloading colleagues.
- When establishing a delegation, confirm with that colleague that they understand the responsibility you have asked them to perform and that they are willing to manage that responsibility.
- Delegating tasks should be done with thoughtful consideration and care. Delegating a task does not remove an individual’s accountability for the action and data involved.
- Each college may have additional expectations related to Delegation in Workday, please contact your college leadership for more information.
