SWANA (national) has several $5k scholarships available for undergraduate and graduate level students interested in pursuing a career in the solid waste industry. Additional documentation included in this post provides all the information students need to apply. Please note the eligibility requirements listed in the attached packets. One requirement is that students should be a SWANA student member. Students can sign up for a FREE student membership here: https://swana.org/community/membership/student-membership.
Students interested in applying should send their completed application to Aubree Decoteau (AUBREE.DECOTEAU@santeecooper.com) by May 1st. The Palmetto Chapter board will review all applications and forward their nomination for each scholarship to the national SWANA committee. Scholarship winners will be announced in August.

Applications are now being accepted for the Summer REU Program in Marine Science at the University of Delaware, an NSF-Funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. Interns will work with faculty in a research-intensive setting on a research topic in chemical, physical, or biological oceanography, marine biology or marine geology. In addition to hands- on research experience, student support includes a $6,700 stipend, campus housing, and travel assistance. The deadline to apply is February 10, 2023. Supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation's Division of Ocean Sciences, this REU program supports ten undergraduate students to conduct research in marine science. The program will take place at the University of Delaware's Hugh R. Sharp campus in the beach community of Lewes, located on the shores of the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean.
