Embracing Service, Inspiring Innovation, Promoting Teamwork, Pursuing Excellence, and Advancing Equity The Watershed Coordinator Serve as the watershed coordinator for assigned areas of the state, working with stakeholders to support state water quality improvement and protection goals, and serve as the 208 Water Quality Management Plan grant coordinator. 

Qualifications:  A bachelor’s degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field

Job duties:

Manage and provide technical assistance to multiple watershed planning and water quality improvement projects; review and document project progress, research and calculate load reductions, conduct site visits, review quarterly reports, and maintain regular communication with grantees. Analyze and interpret water quality data and communicate with diverse stakeholders. 

Establish and maintain partnerships with stakeholders; interpret and advise on water quality data, research and evaluate sources of pollution and best management practices, review and edit draft watershed management documents, attend stakeholder meetings and outreach events, analyze and identify new partnerships and water quality improvement project opportunities. 

Manage and coordinate the 208 Water Quality Management Plan grant; consult with the Councils of Government, prepare annual workplan and grant agreements, process invoices, collect data and prepare annual report.

Minimum And Additional Requirements A bachelor’s degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field. This position is part of the South Carolina Department of Environmental Control’s Bureau of Water. The work performed supports DHEC’s mission to improve the quality of life for all South Carolinians by protecting and promoting the health of the public and the environment. Effective July 1, 2024, this position will transfer to the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services created by Senate Bill 399 which provides for the creation of the Department of Environmental Services to assume the environmental-related functions of DHEC
