Responsibilities include Engineering Notes, Production of Graphic Materials, Compilation of GIS Data, Production of Construction Drawings. Assignments are designed to develop a practical knowledge of their interrelationships within the engineering discipline. 

This is a flexible position where the hours can be tailored to fit around a class schedule if necessary. It is meant for a local student who lives within commuting distance of the office during the school year but who may live within commuting distance of our other offices during the summer.

Job Description

This position is for a student pursuing an environmental, chemical, or general engineering degree and/or a degree in a related science. The interns will support various groups within the Environmental organization and will work with a variety and diverse group of engineers and other technical professions. Tasks may include but not limited to update environmental training material, coordinate environmental/regulatory documents, perform data evaluations, and complete environmental field walk downs.

Basic Qualifications
(Quantifiable; e.g. Three Years Experience, Bachelors Degree)

Currently pursuing a BS degree in environmental engineering or science related technical field. Must have at least a 2.5 GPA.

Preferred Qualifications

Basic Computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Good communication and interpersonal skills.

NOAA Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship

EEES Students:  Please consider applying for the Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship.  It is sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA).  Ernest Hollings was a long-serving senator from SC and this scholarship is a tribute to his public service.  Student scholars receive up to $9,500 per academic year for two years of full-time study, as well as a 10-week, full-time paid summer internship opportunity at NOAA facilities across the US. Hollings alumni report that the experience influenced their academic and career paths, expanded their professional networks and improved their skills. Clemson had two Hollings Scholars last year and historically is undersubscribed for this award.

Who is eligible to apply for the Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship?  To be eligible to apply for the Hollings Scholarship, at the time of application (annually September through January) you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen;
  • Be currently enrolled or accepted as a full-time 2nd year student in a four-year academic program or as a full-time 3rd year student in a five-year undergraduate program at an accredited college or university within the United States or U.S. territories; Community college or transfer students must provide proof of application to a four-year institution when applying for the scholarship and submit proof of acceptance prior to starting the program;
  • Earn and maintain a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent on other identified scale) in all completed undergraduate courses each term and cumulative, as well as an overall GPA of 3.0 in your major field of study. The grade point average requirement applies prior to and at the time of application for a scholarship, for the period between application and award notification, and after award distribution; and
  • Have and maintain a declared major in a discipline including, but not limited to, oceanic, environmental, biological, and atmospheric sciences, mathematics, engineering, remote sensing technology, physical and social sciences including geography, physics, hydrology, geomatics, or teacher education that support NOAA’s programs and mission.

The successful candidate will be pursuing a degree in Environmental Engineering, or an environmental related science and have completed coursework related to the major. We are looking for a candidate who is proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word, possesses a strong aptitude in math and science, is adept at working with large amounts of data, is flexible in regards to handling multiple types of assignments, is proactive, enthusiastic, and enjoys interacting with and serving clients.

The Intern will assist Environmental Specialists in completing project work by working under the direction of the lead specialist for each assignment. The Intern will utilize their existing skill set and knowledge as well as learn new skills to perform support tasks on various projects including pretreatment program administration, pretreatment program updates, local limit calculations, permit renewals, construction permitting, and wastewater design projects.  The intern may be responsible, with minimal supervision, for small projects as they arise and are assigned by the consulting manager. The intern will develop skills in preparation for a future staff level position.

REU | Engineering for Bouncing Back – Oregon State University

Oregon State University is pleased to announce summer internships for undergraduate students on the topic of resilience. The Engineering for Bouncing Back (EBB) program will award research experience for undergraduates (REU) fellowships of $5,000 per student, along with travel and subsistence support, for participation in hands-on and interdisciplinary research on building resilient communities.

During the ten-week program, students will work with a faculty mentor and graduate student on a specific project and develop research skills to increase graduate school opportunities. In addition, students will participate in cohort-building activities such as, field trips to communities facing unique challenges in resilience and a film night focused on community resilience stories. Professional development activities include weekly skill-building workshops and panels, a 10-page project report, and a final program symposium.

Waste Disposal Authority 2019 Student Summer Intern (LSE), Aiken, South Carolina

Job Summary

Provide support to Savannah River Remediation (SRR) as a Student Summer Intern Limited Service Employee (LSE) on the Savannah River Site (SRS), a US Department of Energy(DOE) facility in western South Carolina.

The intern will perform meaningful work in support of the organization. Guidance will be provided using SRR processes and procedures. Interns will prepare and present a final project to the SRR management team summarizing conclusions about the experience, impacts delivered and relevance for their future career.

The Intern will assist with final activities to prepare for issuance of the Saltstone Disposal Facility Performance Assessment revision to DOE-HQ. Intern will assist with final document reviews, finalization of support documentation, incorporation of DOE-SR comments and other tasks as needed. Intern should possess knowledge of various Microsoft software programs including Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

 The 2019 Summer Internship program at Savannah River Remediation (SRR) is open for submission of applications through the month of December.  If you know a college student interested in an internship, engineering or non-engineering fields, they should submit their application and resume through AECOM online application system.

 To qualify for a summer internship with SRR, the student must be a US citizen, enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited four-year university and have a current GPA of 2.5 or higher. The academic discipline classification and GPA must be included on the submittal. Applicants are encouraged to upload their resume as early as possible. Applicant resumes will be reviewed by the selection review panel and selected applicants will be contacted by March 29, 2019.
