The Livestock and Forages Team has formed several working committees to improve programmatic efforts to offer and better serve South Carolina producers. These committees consist of the following: Cow-Calf, Budgeting, and Load Lot and Marketing. Each committee is dedicated to improving information and programmatic support made available to South Carolina livestock producers by providing current and beneficial material on management and increasing profitability.
The Cow-Calf committee has been planning the 1st Annual Southeastern Cow-Calf Conference. The conference will take place in November (virtually) with guest speakers from around the southeast focusing on increasing profitability and sustainability through cow and calf nutrition.
The Budgeting committee has been diligently working on updated budgets for cow/calf operations to provide to agents and producers around the state. Up-to-date budgets are critical for making sound management decisions by producers along with working with lending institutions.
The Load Lot and Marketing committee is developing an outline for agents to use as a standard to help build partnerships among producers to market cattle in load lots. Producers benefit from load lot groups because marketing cattle in larger numbers can increase the value of their cattle.
