Fall 2022 Calendar of Events

Check out Clemson Online’s Fall 2022 Calendar of live training events now and save space in your schedule to sharpen your pedagogy skills! 


This Fall semester, Clemson Online has a variety of instructor development training opportunities. These events are synchronous and we are excited to announce that the workshops will be hybrid! We will hold in-person workshops with a virtual option. Review the topics below to see what piques your interest! If there is a training that interests you, but the date and time do not work for your schedule, you have two options:

  1. Simply register and you will receive a link to the recorded session, whether you attend or not.
  2. Book a 30-minute consultation on the topic to have a one-on-one opportunity to ask questions related to the topic.

New Instructor Conference

Clemson Online is hosting a day of conference sessions designed to get you ready for the fall! In addition, we will host two days for scheduled presentations as well as drop-in opportunities so you can sit down and talk with the experts. See an overview below. Register for free at the conference website and see the full schedule and each day’s Zoom links, published one week prior to the conference.

 Thursday, August 18

New Instructor Conference hosted by Clemson Online is a scheduled conference with dedicated tracks that cover a range of topics. Attend in person or through Zoom. Registration is required; a light breakfast will be provided for in-person attendees.

  • Topics include:
    • Canvas & Zoom
    • instructional tools
    • course organization
    • teaching strategies for international instructors
    • effective learning objectives
    • introduction to Kaltura
    • introduction to iClicker
  • 8am to 12pm
  • Watt Family Innovation Center 3rd floor

Monday, August 22

Bring your laptop and meet us at Cooper Library for a drop-in, face-t0-face conversation with one of our instructional designers about your course, chat with a librarian, learn about library support systems, and take a tour of the library’s integrated technology spaces. Additionally, we will be running scheduled presentations on dedicated topics. Drop-ins are in-person while the scheduled presentations are hybrid.

  • Presentation topics include:
    • Library resources for online learning
    • Introduction to Kaltura
    • iClicker Cloud and Classic
  • 9am to 2pm
  • Cooper Library, 2nd floor (two floors down from the main entrance or 4th floor)

Tuesday, August 23

Bring your laptop and meet us at the Office of Undergraduate Studies in Vickery Hall, where we are partnering with the University Testing and Education Center (UTEC) to deliver more drop-in opportunities and another round of scheduled presentations.

  • Presentation topics include:
    • Library resources for online learning
    • Introduction to Kaltura
    • iClicker Cloud and Classic
  • 9am to 2pm
  • Vickery Hall, 2nd floor

Fall Semester Topics

Our Fall semester options fall into two types of training:

Faculty Development Session Descriptions
20-30 minute virtual trainings 30-45 minute hybrid trainings (in-person location: Cooper Library 309)
Live demonstrations on using learning technology tools such as Canvas, Zoom, Kaltura, and more. Live presentations on pedagogical best practices for learning technology, online course design, and general topics related to online teaching and learning.
Great opportunity to watch and interact with a member of Clemson Online’s Learning Technology team. Great opportunity to discuss pedagogical theory and best practices in online learning, and to interact with a member of Clemson Online’s Online Development team.

  • Three Quick Hits on the functions and features of Kaltura
  • One Workshop Wednesday on Kaltura best practices

Canvas

  • Several Quick Hits on Canvas Speedgrader, building quizzes, academic integrity, and grade books.
  • A Workshop Wednesday session on getting the most out of your course’s Canvas site.

Quality Design

  • Several Workshop Wednesday sessions on reducing cognitive load, exploring Quality Matters course reviews, learning how a Digital Learning Strategist can help you, taking a for-credit course to non-credit, and preparing for the next semester.

Quick Hits: Canvas Quizzes and Academic Integrity

Are you interested in learning about how to secure your online tests and quizzes? Join Clemson Online for a quick look at these topics to help you ensure your classes’ academic integrity. In this course, we will explain the purpose of securing your online assessments and demonstrate how to use them in your course. All of this is in just a 20-minute Quick Hits session! Facilitated by Clemson Online’s Learning Technology Specialists, Axel Ruiz, and Gray Jackson.

Upcoming Live Training

Workshop Wednesday: Make Your Canvas Site Beautiful

Learn all about clear, effective visual design options for your Canvas pages with the new Design Module in the Faculty Resource Center. You can find pre-made graphics such as icons, course banners, buttons, and more with customization options available.

This workshop will provide a walkthrough of the entire Design Module and instructions for downloading, customizing, and placing assets in your courses. Facilitated by Rachel Greene, Digital Learning Designer.

A Zoom link will be emailed to registered participants 48 hours prior to the day of the event.
