Gear Up for Fall 2021 with Clemson Online

Don’t let the August 18 start date scare you – Clemson Online can help you get ready! Here’s just some of what we’re offering this Fall:

Meet Your Classroom

Join Clemson Online and CCIT for interactive classroom technology information sessions on Monday, August 16 and Tuesday, August 17 – both days from 9am to 2pm. We will share tips, best practices, and lessons learned over the past year. These in-person sessions include hands on practice with the A/V technology; try out Zoom or Powerpoint in your classroom before your first day. Check in on the second floor entrance of Brackett Hall.

Faculty Resource Center

Clemson Online maintains a Canvas site filled with resources, advice, tips and tricks, and everything else you might need to get up to speed on teaching with Canvas. Instructors can self-enroll at this link. You can find information about using Canvas in your courses, how to use tools such as Lockdown Browser or Zoom, how to upload files to your cloud storage options, and much, much more.

COFFEE

Our exclusive faculty training series is known as COFFEE: Clemson Online Furthering Faculty Education and E-Learning. Each self-paced course is facilitated by a Clemson Online staff member with 10+ years’ experience in online development and instruction and includes opportunities for creating course artifacts and developing skills in online teaching. Our fall roster of courses is below, with instructions for enrollment:

  • COFFEE (9/13 – 11/7) This is an 8 week, self-paced, and interactive course delivered through Canvas, intended for instructors who are teaching or plan to teach online and want to learn best practices and skills for developing quality online courses. COFFEE covers topics such as building a course in Canvas, writing learning objectives, creating engagement in the online classroom, and creating a faculty introduction video. Enroll at this URL (course will be fully published on 9/13).
  • COFFEE: Accessibility (10/18 – 11/14) This is a 4 week self-paced and interactive course which guides faculty through the processes of making their courses as accessibility-friendly as possible. This course includes lessons in making Canvas course sites, printed materials, and a/v materials accessible. Email onlineplus@clemson.edu for enrollment info.
  • COFFEE: Video and Visual (11/1 – 11/30) This is a 4 week self-paced course which introduces available technology and best practices for creating effective videos and visual artifacts for instructors. Topics covered include: creating videos and captions with Zoom, creating effective presentation slide decks, creating effective learning content in Canvas, and more. Quality Matters Course Reviews

Clemson Online offers Quality Matters course reviews, a nationally recognized marker of excellence in online instruction. Our experienced team can review both online (asynchronous and synchronous) and hybrid courses, and work directly with faculty to make improvements. QM reviews are great for tenure and promotion files, as well as for any faculty who may be looking for assistance in online course design and instruction. Email Lori Kinley for more information.

We offer a variety of training workshops and online classes that can also help your students get up to speed with Canvas, online learning, Zoom etiquette, and more – for both undergraduate and graduate students, for a class or campus organization.
