CLEMSON — Clemson University’s Air Force ROTC unit will hold a ceremony to mark National POW/MIA Remembrance Day from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, in Tillman Hall auditorium.
The ceremony will feature guest speaker Anthony Wood, a retired Marine Corps colonel who served 30 years and received the Distinguished Service Medal twice in his career. In Vietnam, he was a member of the “Special Planning Group,” which secretly planned the evacuation of 5,000 people from Saigon.
Following the ceremony, the Arnold Air Society will hold a 24-hour vigil in front of Tillman from 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20. Cadets will guard a cage that symbolizes soldiers who have been taken prisoner or are listed as missing in action.
National POW/MIA Remembrance Day is held on the third Friday of September every year.
