PressBooks Demonstration: PressBooks is an online self-publishing platform that offers Clemson faculty an easy and low-cost way to publish Open Access works. Clemson Libraries is sponsoring a one-hour demonstration of the platform for the larger Clemson academic faculty Tuesday (10/1) from noon to 1 p.m. in Watt 307. The demo will also feature presentations on how to teach using PressBooks.

Overcoming Obstacles and Facing Adversity: NDEAM 2019: Clemson University graduate Richie Parker will be visiting the Watt Center to talk about his life and the obstacles he has overcome to celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month. The event will take place from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the Watt Center Auditorium on Tuesday (10/1). Richie has been profiled by ESPN and regularly speaks about facing adversity.

Information Session – Hensel Phelps Construction Company: Hensel Phelps will be holding an informational session after the Construction Industry Fair Thursday (10/3) from 6 to 8 p.m. in Watt 313. Students can expect more information on company culture, past job experiences and information about the company’s internship program.

The President’s Forum on Inclusive Excellence: Clemson alumnus Frank Matthews (’71) will be honored by the Fall 2019 President’s Forum on Inclusive Excellence Monday (9/23) at 2 p.m. in the Watt Center Auditorium. Frank Matthews is the co-founder, CEO and publisher of Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. He will share the ways his Clemson experience has impacted his career and life.

Amilcar Valencia, El Refugio: Amilcar Valencia, immigration activist and executive director of El Refugio, will visit Watt Center 106 Wednesday (9/25) from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. El Refugio is a home that facilitates visits for friends and families of the immigrants detained in the Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia. The Creative Inquiry group “Stories of Refuge, Detention and Hospitality” has organized this visit.

The Cybersecurity Landscape: Charles Carmakal and Joseph Rood of FireEye will kick off Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October with a talk on the Cybersecurity Landscape Wednesday (9/25) in the Watt Center Auditorium from 6:00 to 6:45 p.m. Interested faculty members and students can also attend a Q&A with Carmakal and Rood from 4 to 6 p.m. on the fourth floor of the Watt Center.

Creating Safe Spaces: A Roundtable: Join Sarah Le Pichon and other scholars and campus actors whose work relates to trauma and mental health for a roundtable discussion in the Watt Center Auditorium from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. on Monday (9/16). Some questions that will be addressed include “What does it mean to have a safe space?” and “How do we go about fostering safe spaces?”

Trauma-Informed Teaching: A Workshop: Sarah Le Pichon will also lead a workshop on trauma-informed teaching in Watt Center 208 from 4:45 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday (9/16). Coffee and doughnuts will be provided!

College of Business Career Fair Symposium: Join the College of Business’ Student Enrichment team in the Watt Center Atrium on Wednesday (9/18) to prepare for the Clemson Career Fair and recruiting season. There will be presentations, mini-mock interviews and an organization fair from 2 to 5:30 p.m.

Clemson CMO Summit: The Erwin Center for Brand Communications and College of Business will be hosting an event with Forbes this Friday (9/20) from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. throughout the Watt Center. “The Art and Science of Building a Brand” will provide Chief Marketing Officer insights, data-driven and creative opportunities, and the chance to network with industry leaders.
