Student Research Summit: Join the NSF-based program NRT RIES (Resilient Infrastructure and Environmental Systems) for their fall 2019 Student Research Summit, hosted today (10/28) in the Watt Center Auditorium from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Expect student presentations on research, poster sessions and three-minute theses talks.

SciencePREP Seminar: The College of Science is back with another SciencePREP speaker tonight (10/28) at 5:30 p.m. in Watt Center 106. Ralph Rynes, a retired neurologist and infectious diseases physician, will be speaking about “Reducing Stigma to Increase Retention in Healthcare”. He volunteers with Doctors Without Borders, both in the field and at the world headquarters office in Geneva.

Clemson Teaching Excellence Conference: The second annual OTEI Clemson Teaching Excellence Conference returns to the Watt Center Friday (11/1), with nationally-recognized speaker Dr. Regan Gurung, evidence-based teaching workshops, open-floor demonstrations and networking, and more. Attendees can register for the conference online.

Did You Know…

…we hired a new Associate Director? His name is Dr. Mark Krystofik and he joins the Watt Center team from the Golisano Institute for Sustainability at the Rochester Institute for Technology. Learn more on Clemson Newsstand about Dr. Krystofik and his new job at the Watt Center.

Clive Thompson Lecture: There will be a lecture, reception and book signing with technology author Clive Thompson this Wednesday (10/23) from 7:30 to 9:15 p.m. in the Watt Center Auditorium. Thompson’s lecture will focus on his latest book, “Coders”. Thompson writes for Wired Magazine, the New York Times and more.

Sports Illustrated Day: Join the Department of Communication Friday (10/25) for presentations from Ryan Hunt, co-editor-in-chief of Sports Illustrated, and Jamie Lisanti, special projects editor. Their talk will emphasize the changing role of sports journalism and compare the state of sports journalism in 2019 to previous decades. They’ll be speaking at 11 a.m. in the Watt Center Auditorium.

Pro Benefits Expo: Interested in learning more about faculty and staff insurance, retirement, leave, tuition, and wellness benefits? Join the Office of Human Resources this Tuesday (10/15) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the first and second floor of the Watt Center. The Pro Benefits Expo offers a conference-style event, facilitated educational sessions, 30+ exhibitors, open enrollment information, refreshments and even a chance to get your flu shot.

Annual Ethics Day: Join us for motivational speaker Valerie Daniels-Carter, the most successful black female restaurateur in America. Clemson’s Rutland Institute for Ethics, College of Business, Women’s Leadership and Pan African Studies will be hosting this event for Annual Ethics Day. Daniels-Carter is known for her corporate philosophy “you are the standard of excellence.” This event will take place Wednesday (10/16) at 5 p.m. in the Watt Center Auditorium.

Clemson MBA Info Sessions: Not sure what to do after graduation? Join us for an informational session about Clemson’s Master of Business Administration Program to learn about the full-time MBA programs offered to recent graduates. The event will take place this Wednesday (10/9) at two different times: the morning session will go from 8:45 to 10 a.m. in Watt 218, and the evening session runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Watt 316. RSVP here.

NDEAM 2019- CU Hiring Event: Interested in working at Clemson University? Join us for an interactive hiring event this Wednesday (10/9) from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Watt 307. Participants will learn about working for the University (resources, benefits) and current employment opportunities. Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend this event.

A Cyber Criminal’s Perspective: Join us as Kelvin Moore, deputy director of the National Cyber Range Complex in Charleston, shares information security from a criminal’s perspective, including real-world examples of cyber attacks and how to prepare to become a cyber subject matter expert. This talk is part of CCIT’s National Cybersecurity Awareness Month activities in October. Moore will be speaking from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Watt Center Auditorium on Thursday (10/10).

Women’s Leadership 5th Anniversary: Barbara Humpton, CEO of Siemens USA, is one of the best and brightest women CEO’s of a Fortune 500 company. She will be speaking from 3:30 to 4:40 p.m. in the Watt Center Auditorium this Friday (10/11) to help celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Women’s Leadership major.

Intern Spotlight

Allyssa Haygood-Taylor is a senior English major and interns with Creative Inquiry’s Decipher Magazine. Allyssa grew up in Columbia, South Carolina, as a University of South Carolina fan, but instantly became a Clemson Tiger after stepping on our beautiful campus. She is also a proud dog mom to her pitbull, Senator. The Watt Center would not be the same without each of our awesome interns!
