TIGERS ADVANCE Distinguished Speakers Series: Paula T. Hammond, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will be speaking in the Watt Center Auditorium this Thursday (3/12) from 2 to 3 p.m. Hammond was one of three African-American female fellows to be elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and was recognized by the United States Department of Defense with the Ovarian Cancer Research Program Teal Innovator Award in 2013.

Discover Science Lecture: The Secrets of Mental Math with Art Benjamin: Have you ever seen someone double as a mathematician and magician? Join us in the Watt Center Auditorium this Friday (3/13) from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. to see Art Benjamin perform high-speed mental calculations, memorization tricks and more.

Chemistry Research Symposium: Join the College of Science this Saturday (3/14) from 9 a.m. until noon as they host the fifth annual Chemistry Department Research Symposium. Students and faculty members will share their research and accomplishments from the past year, and a keynote speaker will take the Auditorium stage at 11:15 a.m.

Special Hours

The Watt Center will be open during spring break from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday (3/16) through Friday (3/20). Our Student Innovation Spaces (Makerspace, Immersive Space and DIAL) will be closed all week. Have a great spring break, Tigers!

Making Faces: The department of Graphic Communications is hosting illustrator and designer John Kascht this Wednesday (3/4) from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Watt Center Auditorium. Kascht will show his body of work and “share observations on creative obsession, finding a personal style, the importance of coffee, playing well with art directors, self-promotion, self-doubt, and what it’s like to draw Conan O’Brien from life.”

Creative Inquiry Mentor Forum: All mentors are invited to attend the CI Mentor Forum held in the Watt Center Auditorium from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. this Thursday (3/5). Non-mentors interested in CI are also welcome to attend. Students are encouraged to attend the “How to Make a Poster” session at 10:30 a.m., in preparation for the Focus on Creative Inquiry poster session and future presentation opportunities. Refreshments will be provided! Participants should RSVP online.

Sustainability Summit: The inaugural Sustainability Summit will take place in the Watt Center at 1 p.m. on Friday (3/6) and 9 a.m. on Saturday (3/7). The Summit will focus on sustainability issues the University is facing, while working to find solutions to some of those problems. Read more about the Summit and register before Friday!
