How can an end user request or update a Workday security role or organizational access?

Start by discussing the access with your BCBO. Once he or she approves they can submit a ServiceNow case that includes the following information: the user, organization, requested role, and business justification.

What options are there for accessing Workday via Duo?

See this guide in the training library: Use Duo to Log In to Workday  To enroll in Duo Authentication, please visit the Duo Authentication (2FA) at Clemson University.

If faculty, staff or students have questions, need help updating their device or if their device cannot be upgraded, they can visit the CCIT Support Center on the second floor of Cooper Library, email ithelp@clemson.edu or call (864) 656-3494. CCIT can help you with other authentication options such as:

  • Platform authenticators like Windows Hello or Apple TouchID
  • Passkeys in password managers like Keeper, 1Password or Google Password Manager  Hardware token ($20 cost)
Can Workday be set so that it does not log us out for inactivity?

Based on agreed Clemson security standards, 30 mins was deemed the appropriate level of acceptable risk for Workday timeout.

I receive the following message when accessing some reports or initiating some tasks: “Authentication in progress: Your authentication has been initiated in a separate window or tab.”  What should I do?

Clemson has secured sensitive data with an additional authentication requirement for accessing this data. You should see a window appear asking you to enter your Clemson credentials and Duo code again. Enter the information requested and Workday will provide access to the data/task you are requesting. You access to the data will time out after 15 minutes and you will need to reauthenticate.

Do students who are not employee by Clemson have access to Workday?

No, only active employees have access to Workday.

Should I be able to see other employees’ CU ID Numbers?

Yes, CU ID Numbers are not considered personal identifying information.

How do I know what security role(s) I have been assigned?

Budget Center Business Officers serve as the primary liaison for assigning security roles for their college or division, please contact them for this information.

How do I determine what security role I need to be assigned, if I’m unable to perform and action or task required for my job?

For each college and division, the BCBO is the primary liaison for Workday security. The BCBO can request an individual be assigned a security role and they are part of the approval process for updates to security assignments as appropriate.  That request will route to the Workday Security team for a final decision. Elevated approvals and evaluation of security requests for selected roles, based on information provided and best practices, will be performed as needed by the Workday security team.

Other Step-by-step instructions for most tasks in Workday are available in the Workday Training Library.  If you have a question that is not answered here or via a training guide or self-paced training submit a ServiceNow case.
