Baylie Mazyck, Alex Nickles and Luca Testa, all members of the Class of 2026, were among the students recognizes by the college for leadership, academic achievement, service, character and contributions to the Clemson community.

The annual college awards recognize outstanding students across CECAS for achievements in academics, service, research, teaching and leadership.

Baylie Mazyck receives Jacquelwyn Willis Anthony Award

Baylie Mazyck received the Jacquelwyn Willis Anthony Award, which honors distinguished service to PEER, the support network for minority students in the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences.

Mazyck is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering with a minor in Management Information Systems and a Six Sigma Certificate. Her leadership and service have centered on creating welcoming, supportive spaces for other students.

As a CECAS liaison for Clemson’s Student Ethics Committee, CHANGE, Mazyck has helped plan and support programs that promote ethical decision-making and values-based leadership. Her nomination letter described her as a steady and encouraging presence who helps students feel seen, valued and included.

Mazyck has also served as a PEER/WISE mentor and is involved in student organizations including the National Society of Black Engineers, Society for Women Engineers, CHANGE Ethics Program and the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers. She has also gained hands-on engineering experience through a Bosch Rexroth co-op, where she contributed to technical and process improvement projects.

Alex Nickles receives Phi Kappa Phi Certificate of Merit

Alex Nickles received the Phi Kappa Phi Certificate of Merit, which is awarded to one student from each college. Recipients must be graduating seniors with a GPA of 3.4 or higher and have made noteworthy contributions through leadership, service, creative endeavors or other involvement in their department, college and university.

Nickles is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering with a minor in Mathematical Sciences. He has maintained a 4.0 GPA while taking a rigorous course load that includes advanced mathematics coursework and undergraduate research in machine learning applications for renewable energy.

Within the Department of Industrial Engineering, Nickles serves as Lead Undergraduate IE Ambassador, leading tours and helping prospective students and their families learn more about Clemson IE. He has also served as president of Psi Upsilon fraternity and has mentored fellow students through tutoring and student leadership roles.

Nickles has gained professional experience through internships with Michelin and Booz Allen Hamilton, applying industrial engineering, data analysis and software development skills to real-world challenges. His nomination materials describe him as a student who combines academic excellence with integrity, service and a strong commitment to supporting others.

Luca Testa receives Rober W. Snelsire Award

Luca Testa received the Robert W. Snelsire Award, which honors the memory of Dr. Bob Snelsire, a professor of electrical engineering and champion of underrepresented students in the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences. The award recognizes a student who has made outstanding contributions to student success and support initiatives in the college.

Testa is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering with a minor in Mathematical Sciences. He has built a strong record of service, outreach and leadership through his work with PEER & WISE and as an IE Ambassador.

As an intern with PEER & WISE, Testa tutors engineering students, leads exam study sessions, supports precollegiate programming and helps design outreach activities for diverse audiences. In his ambassador role, he represents Clemson IE during campus tours, recruiting events and college functions, helping prospective students and their families feel welcomed, informed and supported.

His nomination materials highlighted his student-centered approach to outreach, including his initiative in reaching out to visiting prospective students before they arrived on campus to welcome them and help ease the uncertainty that can come with a college visit. Testa has also participated in undergraduate research and gained professional experience through Bosch Rexroth and Clark Construction Group.

Celebrating Clemson IE student excellence
