On September 4th, Digital Learning Strategist Dara Abimbade, Ph.D., facilitated a Workshop Wednesday session dedicated to designing your Canvas course to be accessible for all. The training explores the importance of designing online courses for accessibility, general accessibility practices, standards for accessibility, and some helpful tools for accessible design housed within Canvas.
Designing accessible online courses is the best way to ensure all of your students have equal access to learning materials. Educators need to keep in mind that their students might have specific accessibility needs, such as the need for screen readers, subtitles, or alt-text on images. Thankfully, Canvas comes with built-in accessibility checkers that can help ensure the accessibility of all course materials, including files, videos, and even the course landing pages themselves.
Overall, this session provides audiences with important information regarding Canvas’s accessibility functions and succinctly teaches instructors how to better design their online courses for accessible learning.
