On April 2nd, Digital Learning Strategist Leslie Fuller, Ph.D., led an informative presentation on best practices for designing a welcoming Canvas course. The presentation provided an in-depth explanation of various strategies instructors can utilize to foster student connection and ensure all learners feel included and supported.

Fuller begins the presentation by outlining helpful, basic strategies for designing a welcoming Canvas course. These strategies include things like simple organization, designing for accessibility, setting clear expectations and providing available resources to students in a clear way. She then goes into more detailed explanations about each strategy, making sure to explain every method thoroughly, especially with topics like pathways for instructor communication and how to connect course content to the learner’s experiences.
Overall, this session provides audiences with important information regarding strategies for helping students feel accepted and welcome in online learning environments.
