Follow Up Friday: Beyond Office Hours: Increasing Student-Instructor Engagement Online

On March 5th, Digital Learning Strategist Millie Tullis led an informative presentation on how to increase student-instructor engagement in online class settings. The presentation provided an in-depth explanation of various strategies instructors can adopt to increase the effectiveness of their office hour sessions, as well as additional methods educators can utilize to connect more personally with their students in online classroom environments.

Tullis begins the presentation by explaining some current approaches to digital office hours. They then detail some small changes that can have big impacts on student engagement outcomes during these sessions. Finally, Tullis discusses some methods for modeling engagement through instructor presence, as well as how to increase student engagement through active learning.

Overall, this session provides audiences with important information regarding strategies for increasing student engagement in online classroom settings.
