On January 15th, Digital Learning Strategist Dara Abimbade, Ph.D., facilitated a Workshop Wednesday presentation dedicated to developing assessments and course policies alongside generative AI. The presentation offers detailed information regarding the ways that learning assessments are changing in the face of this new technology.

Abimbade makes an important point early in his presentation: artificial intelligence is constantly evolving, therefore educators must learn to evolve with it. He then goes on to discuss some of the ways learning assessments are changing with the onset of generative AI, detailing the shift from pre-AI classrooms to the post-AI space. Additionally, he points out that it is important to understand what AI’s capabilities and limitations are, that instructors should focus on the ethical considerations surrounding this technology, and should model responsible AI use to their students.
Overall, this session provides audiences with important information regarding the changing nature of the educational landscape in the face of generative AI and highlights methods that instructors should adopt when developing clear AI usage policies for their students.
