Follow Up Friday: Editing Videos in Kaltura and Kaltura Video Quizzes

On May 9, Senior Learning Technology Specialist Gray Jackson led a Quick Hits session titled Editing Videos in Kaltura. This training introduced participants to Kaltura Capture, Kaltura’s screen recording tool, and provided practical tips on enhancing videos through chapters, hotspots, thumbnails, and caption editing. The session was especially valuable for instructors seeking to make their course content more interactive and accessible.

Jackson began his session by demonstrating the Kaltura Capture interface and showcasing how to add visual elements like thumbnails and chapters, as well as how to edit captions for improved clarity and accessibility. The session provided a strong foundation for leveraging Kaltura’s editing tools to enrich instructional content.

As a follow-up, IT Services Specialist John Dickinson hosted Kaltura Video Quizzes on May 12. This session guided participants through the process of embedding quiz questions into Kaltura videos, creating graded assignments in Canvas using those quizzes, and reviewing quiz results. Dickinson’s step-by-step walkthrough is ideal for instructors exploring new ways to engage students through formative video assessments.

Dickinson followed with a detailed overview of how to insert multiple question types into video timelines, assign quizzes through Canvas, and access student response data. This training is particularly useful for educators looking to integrate active learning strategies into their courses.

Together, these sessions offer a comprehensive introduction to two of Kaltura’s most powerful tools—editing and quizzing—helping instructors enhance both the accessibility and interactivity of their course materials.
