Follow Up Friday: How to Deter Online Cheating Through Course Design

On June 25, Digital Learning Strategist Millie Tullis led an engaging Workshop Wednesday session titled How to Deter Online Cheating Through Course Design. The training explored why students may cheat and how thoughtful course and assignment design in Canvas can enhance motivation and reduce instances of academic dishonesty.

Tullis opened the session by examining common reasons students cheat in online learning environments. They then shared a variety of course design strategies aimed at increasing student motivation, such as emphasizing course relevance and fostering a sense of classroom community. The session concluded with a brief discussion of AI and academic integrity.

This workshop offers practical insights for designing online courses that encourage honesty and independent work.
