Clemson Online: Where Tech and Teaching Meet

Newest QM Course Certifications

Clemson Online is proud to announce the official Quality Matters (QM) certification of two courses this fall: CSM 1000: Introduction to Construction Science and Management, taught by Gretchen Waugaman, Ph.D., and NURS 3190: Heath Assessment for RNs, taught by Kim Pickett, Ph.D. The QM Rubric focuses specifically on the design of the course in a way that centers student learning. To achieve certification, courses must meet expectations in eight different areas, including learning objectives, assessments, learning activities, and accessibility. Clemson Online first reviews courses internally in coordination with the course representative before sending them out for an official review. Both courses were submitted as part of the 2024-25 QM Cohort and are listed in the Quality Matters directory of certified courses.

CSM 1000 was reviewed by Digital Learning Strategist Leslie Fuller, Ph.D., and Associate Director of Online Development Lori Kinley, Ph.D. About the process, Waugaman said,

“I enjoyed putting my CSM 1000 course through the QM Review. Through the workshops beforehand and during the review, I learned new strategies and ways to present the content and engage with my students, and my course is now better than ever! I encourage everyone who teaches an online course to go through this review.”

NURS 3190 was reviewed by Digital Learning Manager Sharyn Emery, Ph.D., and Digital Learning Strategist Millie Tullis. In reflection of the QM process, Pickett writes,

Having the opportunity to complete the Quality Matters course was an integral part of my professional learning in terms of learning how to deliver an excellent online experience for learners. The QM staff was extremely supportive, helpful and well-organized. I highly recommend this experience for anyone looking to elevate their teaching.”

Quality Matters is the global leader in effective online course design. Its review process is a research-based, comprehensive and collaborative process that helps produce well-designed, rigorous online courses in keeping with Clemson’s mission as a high seminary of learning.

QM reviews are now eligible for submission as evidence of teaching effectiveness in the Faculty Success Annual Reporting system, thanks to the support of the Office of Academic Affairs and the Provost. Instructors should consult their individual departments and programs to determine how QM reviews will be recognized.

Instructors who are interested in a Quality Matters review for their course or wanting to learn more about quality online instruction may the visit the QM at Clemson Canvas  course or contact our QM Coordinator.
