Retirement Starts Now: Retirement planning support available through OHR, PEBA

It is never too early to start planning for retirement.

Recognizing many faculty and staff members desire to plan for retirement, the Office of Human Resources Workforce Benefits and Well-Being Unit will host two retirement planning sessions with the South Carolina Public Employee Benefit Authority (PEBA).

“Retirement Starts Now” is targeted toward faculty and staff members in the middle of their careers who are interested in learning more about preparing for retirement.

PEBA says, on average, the state’s defined benefit retirement plans provide about 50% of active employment income. Officials estimate Social Security may provide up to 40%. This course will walk employees through the variables that may impact their retirement income and the steps they can take now to better prepare.

The first sessions occurred on September 11 from 1 – 4:30 p.m. and the next will take place on November 13 from 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Sessions will take place virtually to allow faculty and staff across the state to participate. Interested individuals should register ahead of time through Tiger Training to receive the link to the virtual webinar. Faculty and staff who cannot attend the live sessions can watch the presentation on PEBA’s YouTube channel.

For faculty and staff members closer to retirement (within three months to one year), the Workforce Benefits and Well-Being Unit offers “Navigating Your Retirement” classes, which guide employees through the steps needed to retire from the University. These classes are offered both in-person at the Administrative Services Building and virtually. Registration for those sessions is also available through Tiger Training

PEBA offers appointments for one-hour phone consultations and one-hour video consultations. Faculty and staff can schedule an appointment online or learn more on PEBA’s website.

Mobile Mammography Bus returns to main campus September 17

The AnMed Health Mobile Mammography Coach will be on Clemson’s main campus on September 17, 2024, to provide mammography services to interested employees.

The bus will be stationed on Fernow Street by Riggs Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. or until no more appointments are available.

Mammography services through the AnMedHealth mobile mammography coach are free through the state health insurance plan for eligible employees. Many other insurance companies provide mammography services to eligible members at no cost or with a discount. Still, interested individuals should review their plan to determine what their coverage includes. Individuals paying for mammography services out of pocket receive a 50% discount. Individuals may also be eligible for low or no-cost screenings if they do not have insurance. To learn whether you qualify for assistance, contact the breast patient navigator at 864-512-4091.

Mobile mammography services are available to women 40 or older with a self-referral or an order from their physician.

AnMed Health guidelines state individuals should have no breast symptoms, not be pregnant or breastfeeding, and be able to walk up 3-4 mobile steps. You may receive a mammogram if it has been one year and one day since your previous mammogram. Please do not wear any deodorant, powder, perfume or lotion on the day of your appointment. AnMed Health suggests individuals wear a two-piece outfit for the appointment.

Please bring your insurance card and photo ID to the appointment.

A radiologist with AnMed Health will read your results within one business day and send them immediately to your physician. You can also view your results on your AnMed MyChart account. Patients will receive a letter in the mail with their results within 7-10 days.

Though not required, appointments are highly encouraged. To schedule an appointment, call 864-512-6255.
