Applications are Live for the Second Annual Erwin Center Summer Scholars Program

January 15, 2019

The Erwin Center for Brand Communications is looking forward to the upcoming summer and its second annual Summer Scholars program. Applications are now open for our week-long camp to help prepare minority students for jobs with leading brands and agencies – this year from May 18-25, 2019.

In June of 2018, the Erwin Center for Brand Communications hosted its first inaugural Summer Scholars program, a week-long immersive brand communication camp dedicated to advancing diversity in brand communications. 24 students from 9 historically black colleges across the southeast representing 11 majors participated in the program that focuses on enhancing the skills and abilities of our nation’s future brand leaders. Our Erwin Center Summer Scholars are interested in pursuing careers in branding, advertising, marketing, public relations and communications, and were paired with mentors to learn build their own network. This mentorship is designed to give professional development from faculty and practitioners, and the networking is centered around giving students access to connections both inside and outside of the classroom. During the week, the students are given the opportunity to work on portfolio building through a client project, this year with Denny’s, and attend interactive events. In the words of one scholar, Derik Rush, “It was just an amazing experience being around so many like-minded students who were willing to brainstorm and problem solve as a group. We really bonded within the short amount of time of the program.” This is such a phenomenal program, and the Erwin Center is proud to continue its success this upcoming summer. If you or anyone you know is interested in joining the Erwin Center Summer Scholars program, make sure to apply before the deadline of March 1, 2019. Be sure to have a letter of recommendation, and contact Dr. Lori Pindar, the Assistant Director, at lorip@clemson.edu with any questions!
