Our organization has undergone significant changes over the past few months. Maintenance shop personnel are now operating out of their respective offices in UFC Building B. Maintenance Stores has relocated to UFC Building C and is actively providing full service to Facilities staff and partners. UFC Building A is nearly 100% utilized, with office spaces occupied by staff from across all departments. A vision that began several years ago has now been realized with the completed development of the University Facilities Center.
Shops for the 21st Century
The relocation of various Maintenance Services shops to UFC Building B marks a major upgrade from the aging workspaces at Shops Court. The new facility includes modern amenities and was designed with input from department staff. Its overall layout is intended to improve efficiency and collaboration between shops. Centralizing the shop spaces also aims to foster camaraderie among different work crews.
At the heart of UFC Building B is the UFC Hub, a dedicated shared space for Maintenance Services staff to enjoy meals, catch up with coworkers, and recharge. The Hub is equipped with multiple microwaves, refrigerators, and a kitchenette for convenient meal prep. With ample seating and tabletop space, it’s easy to gather for lunch or coffee, encouraging fellowship among tradespeople. Prefer quiet time? Five large-screen TVs playing varied programming offer a perfect escape—or an easy conversation starter.
The Hub also doubles as a space that can be used for get-togethers, team-building exercises, and special occasions. If it’s not available, shop personnel have access to a dozen bookable conference rooms across the street in Building A.
A Modern Maintenance Stores
The new Maintenance Stores facility in UFC Building C offers several key improvements. All offices are now in temperature-controlled environments, increasing comfort while performing desk tasks. The warehouse is equipped with four large ceiling fans to maintain airflow—especially helpful during hot summer days. The centrally located receiving entrance allows for improved foot traffic control from both customers and vendors.
A new drive-up area allows staff to easily pick up parts requested through Pick Tickets. Much like ordering at Chick-fil-A, you can use the FMObile app to request parts from the store’s inventory. After submitting a Pick Ticket, simply drive to the side of Maintenance Stores where a staff member will quickly deliver your order—helping you respond to your customers more efficiently.
Parts requested through the FMObile app can be picked up shortly after ordering.
This relocation isn’t just a move—it’s a leap forward for University Facilities’ Support Services. With upgraded climate control, improved office and warehouse environments, and streamlined access for customers and vendors, Maintenance Stores is now better equipped to serve everyone who depends on it for purchasing, receiving, and vehicle management.
The University Facilities Center
With Buildings B and C now complete, the University Facilities Center fulfills a long-term goal: to bring the University Facilities family together under one proverbial roof. While our former buildings were showing their age, all three UFC buildings are brand-new or recently renovated—with ample parking for staff and guests alike.
Before the move, access to shared resources varied widely across locations. Now, those resources are easily available to all. With representation from departments across the organization, the Center fosters collaboration and greater understanding among teams.
Without a doubt, the University Facilities Center provides a modern, unified workplace that enables us to better serve the university by developing and maintaining high-quality learning environments.
