Meet the Clemson Forage Research Laboratory Team

The Clemson Forage Research Laboratory is an important research and Extension resource for South Carolina’s farmers and livestock producers. We actively work on research projects to attend the SC stakeholder needs and provide research-based recommendations for forage-livestock systems statewide and in the Southeast region. We provide reliable information for livestock producers, forage managers, agricultural professionals, and anyone seeking information about forage and livestock systems in South Carolina.

Liliane Silva

Assistant Professor & Forages Specialist

Profile: Dr. Liliane Silva is an Assistant Professor and the Forages Extension Specialist in the Animal and Veterinary Sciences Department at Clemson University. She received her B.S. in Agronomy and her M.S. in Pasture and Animal Sciences from the University of Sao Paulo. Dr. Silva’s research focuses on management strategies to improve forage agronomic and nutritive responses and enhance the sustainability, profitability, and resilience of forage livestock systems. Leandro Vieira-Filho (Leo)

Profile: Dr. Vieira grew up in a 6th generation family ranch in Brazil, where he discovered his passion for soil science. Dr. Vieira holds a B.S. in Agronomy (Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Santa Catarina, Brazil), a M.S. in Soils and Plant Nutrition (University of São Paulo, Brazil), an MBA in Agribusiness (University of São Paulo, Brazil) and a Ph.D. in Soil and Water Sciences (University of Florida). His research and extension efforts have been mainly focused on soil fertility, plant nutrition, and water quality on grazingland ecosystems.

 

Luana Zagato

Ph.D. student

Profile: Luana Zagato is a Ph.D. student in the Animal and Veterinary Sciences Department at Clemson University. She received her B.S. in Agronomy from the State University of Sao Paulo and her M.S. in Plant Sciences from the University of Idaho. Her research interests include legume-grass intercropping, animal nutrition, and combining the integrative resources of plants, soil, and animals. Link: (TBD)
