Each year, Graphic Communications has the pleasure to be part of one of the largest celebrations Clemson University offers to fans, students, and families alike: Homecoming! As part of the campus wide celebration, the Graphic Communications department offers a variety of activities within Godfrey Hall that is free and open to the public for all Clemson fans.

This year, the Graphic Communications department implemented the campus wide theme, “Underneath an Orange Sky”, with their own twist by offering Graphic Communications students’ the opportunity to play a huge role by designing and producing every product that visitors will take away after their visit to Godfrey.

One of the most iconic parts about Graphic Communications’ Homecoming celebration are the wide format banners that were displayed across the front side of Godfrey Hall. The banners were designed and produced in Godfrey Hall, all thanks to Mimaki, and gave students the connection to be able to experience the process of how a branded piece of material is created from start to finish. These banners could be seen across Bowman Field and gave the feeling of excitement and anticipation all week long as fans arrived on campus.

When guests visited Godfrey Hall, they were prompted with a number of activities available for all ages. Guests could have their picture taken at our photo booth and have their photos printed and ready to take with them by the end of their visit. Within our labs, guests could screen print their own “Clemson GC” pennants and guests toured our Advanced Lab, where flexography stations were displayed, giving our guests an idea of how we print stickers and labels. The tour of Godfrey during our Homecoming celebration provides guests an experience similar to what Clemson GC students experience while obtaining their degree through our program.

The Graphic Communications department will plan to host homecoming celebrations for many years to come as it has become a tradition within the department and one event that is anticipated by Clemson GC students, alumni and their families.

Our 2018 Homecoming celebration was made possible by Jay Jacobs, Daryl Stevens, Clemson GC Graduate students, Jeff Kalin and students within the Digital Media Design course, our partners at Mimaki and event volunteers.
