On May 16, 2024, Clemson Online celebrated Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). Founded in 2012 by Joe Devon and Jennison Asuncion, GAAD is dedicated to promoting digital accessibility and inclusion for the millions of people with disabilities worldwide. This annual event raises awareness about the importance of making digital content and technology accessible to all users.
Digital accessibility ensures that people with disabilities can navigate, understand, and interact with digital content. Whether it’s a website, mobile app, or online course, accessible design makes it possible for everyone to have equal access to information and services. GAAD shines a spotlight on the ongoing need for inclusive design practices, encouraging designers, developers, and content creators to consider the diverse needs of their audience.
GAAD is more than just a day—it’s a movement towards a more inclusive digital world. By advocating for accessibility, we can help ensure that everyone, regardless of their abilities, can access and enjoy the digital content we create. Let’s work together to make the web a more welcoming place for all.
For more information about GAAD and how you can get involved, visit the official GAAD website. Mark your calendar for next year’s GAAD, and join us in celebrating the strides we’ve made in digital accessibility and our commitment to continuing this important work!
