On August 30th, IT Services Specialist John Dickinson facilitated a Quick Hits session dedicated to understanding the popular plagiarism checker Turnitin. The training explores Turnitin’s various features, including the similarity layer, AI score, and feedback studio.
Turnitin offers an easy way for instructors to check and see if a student has committed plagiarism. In a time where artificially generated writing threatens academic integrity, the importance of using Turnitin cannot be underemphasized. The program is capable of running student submissions against a student paper repository, current and archived web content, periodicals, journals, and other academic publications to check for similarity. Recently, Turnitin added an AI detection feature that is capable of detecting artificially generated content for submissions in English that are over 300 words.
Overall, this session provides audiences with important information regarding Turnitin’s functionality and succinctly teaches its viewers how to better engage with the program through both Canvas and Turnitin.com.
