Canvas Jumpstart Series

Our Canvas Jumpstart Series is returning January 3, 4, and 5th to help you prepare your spring Canvas courses!

Canvas Jumpstart will cover Canvas basics, course organization, and introduce you to useful tools available at Clemson. Led by our Digital Learning Strategists and Learning Technology Specialists, this three-day series will help prepare your tech and your course for the spring semester! 

Each session will be held over Zoom, and a recording will be provided for all who register. A Zoom link will be emailed to all registered participants 24-48 hours before the event. 

You can register for individual days of the series or for all three. Learn more about each day below!

Day 1: Canvas Essentials

Wednesday, January 3, 1:30-3:00 PM

Building a Canvas site for your teaching needs is easier than you think! Day 1 will start with your syllabus and course calendar as the blueprint for creating your Canvas course. We will cover:

  • Canvas orientation and key elements 
  • Creating and organizing your Gradebook
  • Accessibility and importing content

Facilitated by James Butler, Digital Learning Strategist, with an introduction to Clemson Online by Sharyn Emery, Ph.D., Digital Learning Manager. 

Day 2: Organizing Your Canvas Course

Thursday, January 4, 1:30-3:00 PM

Day 2 of our Canvas Jumpstart Series will help you organize your course materials using Canvas tools and sound pedagogical principles. We will cover effective course organization and navigation from the instructor and learner perspective. We will cover:

  • Creating a welcoming homepage
  • Creating a “Start Here” module 
  • Designing Canvas pages
  • Organization and student navigation

Day 3: Connecting Canvas Tools

Friday, January 5, 1:30-3:00 PM

Utilizing learning tools in Canvas is easier than you think! Day 3 will explain the most popular tools and integrations used here at Clemson and how to add them to your Canvas sites. 

Tools covered will include:

  • Zoom
  • Turnitin
  • LockDown Browser 
  • Kaltura

Facilitated by our Sr. Learning Technology Specialist, Gray Jackson, and Learning Technology Specialist, John Dickinson. 

Drop-in Hours

In addition to our three-day Canvas Jumpstart Series, our Digital Learning Strategists will be hosting virtual “drop-in hours” on January 8th and 9th to answer your specific Canvas questions. You must be logged into Zoom with your Clemson email to join the “drop-in” session, but no registration is required.

Workshop Wednesday: Next Semester Prep

Wednesday, December 20th, 1:00-2:00 PM

As we finish another Fall semester, do yourself a small favor before taking your well-deserved break. Join this training to meet with one of our Digital Learning Strategists as they walk you through next semester’s preparation steps you can take in Canvas. Select from a range of topics you would like covered and enter any specific questions you might have. This training will cover importing Canvas content and planning next semester’s courses with learning objectives in mind.
