On October 24th, Quality Matters Coordinator Hansen Wetsel facilitated a Workshop Wednesday presentation dedicated to the importance of aligning online learning objectives with the Quality Matters (QM) framework. The presentation offers a concise overview of the QM framework and provides instructors with some basic information regarding the resources Clemson Online and QM can provide for educational success.
Wetsel explains that the QM framework is useful for online course design as it ensures instructors have access to all of the resources necessary to achieve teaching success. The framework is composed of eight standards, including a course overview, learning objectives, assessment, instructional materials, learning activities, technology, learner support, and accessibility. These standards benefit both the instructor and students. Wetsel then discusses some ways to start implementing the QM framework into learning objective design. For example, he outlines how to go about writing specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) course learning objectives and module learning objectives.
Overall, this session provides audiences with important information regarding the importance of implementing Quality Matters standards into course design and offers instructors helpful suggestions for how to get started with the QM framework.
